Inositol is a B vitamin that plays an important role in regulating the neurotransmitter serotonin within nerve cells. A well-controlled, double-blind study done by Israeli researches in 1997 found that high doses of inositol 18 grams per day) were as effective as the SSRI's Prozac and Luvox in treating obsessive-compulsive disorder (Larson 1999)
Inositol has also been used to treat panic disorder and other anxiety disorders with ood results. If you ant to try inositol, obtain it in a powdered form (available at your health food store or on the Internet) and take 4 to 8 grams ( about one teaspoon) three times per day with meals. Keep in mind that inositol is water soluble and safe, even at high doses.
